FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Brooklyn CT, (February 6, 2004)
PierceCare is the new parent name for Pierce Memorial Baptist Home and Creamery Brook Retirement Village, located in Brooklyn CT.
President and CEO Leonard Goldberg, said, “Pierce Memorial Baptist Home has a fifty-three year history of delivering quality care to older adults. Recently, however, what has been a traditional nursing home has grown to include other services for the elderly. Four years ago, for instance, Creamery Brook Retirement Village began; an Adult Day Care Program is firmly in place, which gives caregivers a day off from the arduous task of taking care of an older adult; and we are seeking to begin an assisted living program as well as short-term rehabilitative therapy. Our aim is to provide a continuum of services for older adults, from independent living through skilled nursing care. We needed a new parent name. One that was not limiting but yet took into account our heritage and the kind-of quality care that we provide to our elderly residents.”;
Pierce Memorial Baptist Home began in 1950 when Amassa and Edna Pierce donated their family homestead to the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut to begin, “a home for elderly Baptist women.” Over the fifty years, hundreds of older men and women, from all faiths and beliefs, have lived out their later years at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. They have done so as independently as their individual circumstances allow, and with dignity and respect. This kind-of quality care has become a hallmark of Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, leading it to adopt the descriptive phrase, “Where Caring is a Way of Life!”
Mr. Goldberg further noted, “Whereas PierceCare has been chosen as a name that denotes current and future services as well as a continuum of care, it is being used as a “doing business as” name. The legal corporate name of the organization will remain as Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, at least for the immediate future.”
